Jenn Freeman, born September 21, 1986, and raised in rural Idaho, is an Autistic American choreographer, dance performer, and internationally recognized dance and movement educator based in New York City and Los Angeles. A 2023 recipient of grants from the New England Foundation for the Arts, the O’Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts, Freeman notably co-created, co-choreographed, and starred in the award-winning solo dance theater piece Is It Thursday Yet? The world premiere was produced by La Jolla Playhouse, followed by an NYC presentation for the inaugural season of The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) and a run at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Co-choreographed with Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh, the piece is cited as a genre-bending "theatrical clinical analysis of Jenn’s neurodivergent brain in motion."
Freeman is gaining attention for her upcoming courageous portrayal of her late-in-life ASD diagnosis in the highly anticipated feature documentary Room to Move (dir. Alexander Hammer), executive produced by Amy Schumer. The film, which uniquely chronicles the creation of her solo evening-length performance, is set to premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.
In 2024, she was commissioned to create an original work, Falling and Waking Forever, for New Dances at The Juilliard School. Freeman was also recently commissioned to create a new work for Complexions Contemporary Ballet with a world premiere at The Joyce Theater. Other recent commissions include a solo for American Ballet Theatre principal dancer, Cassandra Trenary, that premiered at Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur, and a new work for the Martha Graham Dance Company. In 2018, Freeman produced, directed, and choreographed her debut evening-length work ...it's time... in New York City. After a sold-out run, the show was presented for a second engagement in 2019. Freeman's choreography has also been commissioned by Marymount Manhattan College, Wayne State University, BYU, and The University of Texas at Austin. For more than a decade, she has worked alongside Director and Choreographer, Sonya Tayeh, as an associate choreographer and as a featured dancer in many of her original works. Freeman is a graduate of TISCH School of the Arts, NYU.
